EU - Selected trace and ultratrace elements: Biological role, content in feed and requirements in animal nutrition – Elements for risk assessment

Up-to-date information on the authorizations granted in the EU and in relevant countries outside the EU, for human and/or animal nutrition for 27 selected trace and ultratrace elements is reported. Descriptive information is summarized on the biological role, bioavailability, metabolism and human toxicity for these elements. Numerical data from assessments by scientific bodies including animal requirements, maximum tolerable levels and upper intake levels are compiled. In addition, background concentrations of these elements in feed materials and complete feedingstuffs, and use levels are given. Data on these element concentrations in edible tissues and products as well as their concentrations in edible tissues and products linked with the dietary intake of the elements are also provided. Finally, where available, toxicological risks for user/worker and environment are indicated.
