Soy Complex Up On Strong Exports, Higher Corn Prices and Carryout Expectations
The soy complex closed up on February 8 reflecting surge in corn prices, stronger-than-expected export sales and expectations that USDA would lower its U.S. soybean carryout. March bean futures closed up $1.01 finishing at $273.28; May was $1.10 higher, closing at $279.34; and July gained $1.19 ending at $284.30. March meal was up $1.76 closing at $237.33; May was $1.54 higher, finishing at $242.40; and July increased $1.65 to finish at $247.03. Improved Prospects for Corn Crops in South America
U.S. feed grains supply and use estimates are essentially unchanged this month, but
supplies are down from last year and use is expected to be up. Corn prices are
unchanged from last month but, because of tight supplies, are up sharply from last year.
Stronger corn prices have also strengthened other feed grain prices this year.
Foreign corn production is up this month with record corn crops in Brazil and Argentina.
Increased exports from these crops will compete with U.S. exports in both 2006/07 and
2007/08. Despite high corn prices, record world corn trade is forecast for 2006/07.

Basic Atlas of Normal and Abnormal Blood Cells in Farmed Tilapias / Atlas Básico de las Células Sanguíneas Normales y Anormales en Tilapias Cultivadas
Patterson Peddie Consulting Ltd has produced a series of CD-ROM atlases to aid fish biologists/veterinarians and students in the morphological identification of blood cells.
The second booklet in the series is bilingual (English & Spanish) and is entitled "Basic Atlas of Normal and Abnormal Blood Cells in Farmed Tilapias / Atlas Básico de las Células Sanguíneas Normales y Anormales en Tilapias Cultivadas."   It is written by Professor David Conroy and Gina Conroy of Pharma-Fish S.R.L. (ISBN: 978-0-9553926-2-7) and contains 61 colour photographs.

Then first CD-ROM booklet in the series (Basic Atlas of Altantic Salmon Blood Cells) was received with much success.  For example, Prof. Manuel Fukushima, Emeritus Professor, Fisheries Department of the National University of Trujillo has written: "this is a magnificent aid required in productive Atlantic salmon farming activities, and serves to help interpret many phenomena which occur in practice. It has very clear photographs, which we might only be able to obtain with great difficulty in fieldwork."

The retail price of the CD-ROM is 20 GBP (excluding P&P and VAT).  For more information and an order form, please contact the publisher via e-mail at: info@pattersonpeddie.com.

Australian Prawn Farming Manual

It is an easy to read guide for running a low disease risk shrimp farm in Australia. Using the combined knowledge of Australia's leading scientists, shrimp farmers, extensionists and shrimp health specialists, this manual captures what is known about the diseases that threaten the Australian shrimp farming industry and how the of disease outbreak can be minimized.
