Chinese Shrimp Hatchery Imports Water from Hawaii
Zhanjiang Dacheng Aquaculture Co., Guangdong province, China, imported 81 tons of seawater from Hawaii to grow more than 2,000 litopenaeus vannamei larvae it imported earlier from the state, China Daily reports.
The company imported the same species in 2008, but needed to treat the local water. "Local water and water from Hawaii are different, for example, in their mineral content," Wu Changde, general manager of the company told the newspaper, adding the water, imported for a cost of 400,000 yuan ($60,000), is to ensure the output and quality of the shrimp.
