ADM - Research Scientist, Animal Nutrition - Decatur, IL, USA
This position is responsible for leading animal nutrition research at Archer Daniels Midland Company to support the development of new ingredients and products for aquaculture feed applications. A primary focus is mining ADM commodity streams and processes for solutions that enable growth and production efficiency and health of aquaculture species, chiefly farmed salmon and shrimp. The successful candidate will develop a deep understanding of feed ingredients and solution technologies and how they affect digestive physiology, metabolism and immune function. In addition, the position will advise colleagues in Operations, Regulatory and Quality Control on process and product development, as well as provide or develop competency in external technical support for commercialization of new ingredients, products, and complete aquaculture rations in destination geographies.
- Job Responsibilities:
Mine technology opportunities from published literature and external sources
Design and coordinate research trials to determine value of existing and new ADM ingredients
Provide advice on commodity processing and feed manufacturing to enable new ingredients
Manage research projects to meet milestones and objectives within budget
Provide nutritional recommendations and fundamental expertise to internal customers
Support product development and commercialization of new technologies as requested, specifically supporting Regulatory and Quality
Prepare technical papers and presentations to support awareness of scientific findings
Prepare invention disclosures and secure intellectual property based upon scientific discovery
Make recommendations to management concerning research investments and infrastructure
Develop relationships with academic, industry, and government agencies
Monitor and report on scientific trends, industry trends, and competitive landscape
- Job Requirements:
PhD in aquaculture (preferred) or equivalent research experience
Demonstrated ability to design, coordinate and complete research investigations
Expertise in nutrition and physiology and knowledge of production management
Working knowledge of feed formulation software and feed manufacturing practices
Appreciation for industrial processing and production of co-products and ingredients
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of statistical software programs
Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication
Ability to communicate to diverse audiences including technical and non-technical stakeholders
Awareness of global aquaculture and willingness to translate scientific findings to global scale
