Register for 1st Symposium on welfare in aquaculture

The 1st symposium on welfare in aquaculture is organized by Swansea University, Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Research in collaboration with SMARTAQUA and will be held at Swansea University, UK, on May 14.

The symposium is particularly focused on welfare indicators for novel species. This free event includes a morning symposium followed by a workshop on the welfare of lumpfish. The morning symposium includes:

  • The effects of stress on the welfare of farmed fish. Uses and misuses of cortisol measurements.
  • The use of fish behavior as an operational welfare indicator in aquaculture.
  • Fish welfare criteria in worldwide aquaculture: the CAREFISH project.
  • Development of operational welfare indicators for lumpfish.
  • Lessons learned from applying the principle of fish welfare indicators to farmed Atlantic salmon.
  • Maintaining good welfare under aquaculture intensification: problems and solutions.
