An applied food and feed extrusion course will be offered in Thailand this summer. This “applied" extrusion course provides participants with an understanding of the theory of the extrusion process, combined with pilot plant exercises demonstrating how the principles are applied across different products and extruder types.

This course differs from other courses because instead of continuous lectures, background information is first presented and then the course focuses on a product – its formulation and processing, and design of the screw configuration and the process. Finally, participants produce it in the pilot plant.

Up until now, five different products were made during the three-day course on three different types of extruder (long and short barrel single-screw, and twin-screw). But this year it will be six products, introducing an additional demonstration of aquafeed extrusion in the Faculty of Fisheries. The range of types of extruded products and technologies means participants receive a very wide understanding of the technology, and how the principles can be applied to their own products.

The course will be held at the Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand, from July 22-24. More information and registration here. Early bird discount deadline is June 7.
