An Indian start-up company, Sai Aqua Feeds, that adopted a technology of ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA) in formulating shrimp feeds, won the Best Fisheries Enterprises award.
Sai Aqua Feeds received the Best Fisheries Enterprises award for commercializing indigenous desi shrimp feed Vannamei plus developed by the CIBA. This feed can reduce the production cost in shrimp aquaculture by 20% and contribute towards doubling farmers’ income.
The company started operation in 2017 and had an overall production of 7,633 tons of shrimp feeds in the brand “Vasanthi Premium” with an average annual production of 2,585 tons. Hundreds of shrimp farmers are getting the benefits of this feed in their aquaculture ventures.
World Fisheries Day is celebrated every year on November 21 to highlight the importance of healthy ocean ecosystems and ensure sustainable stocks of fisheries in the world. Indian National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB, Hyderabad) and Department of Fisheries (DoF) organized a meeting on eve of the world fisheries day celebrations in Delhi on November 21, 2020, and presented the awards to the best stakeholders in the fisheries sector.
