Toxic algae bloom caused the loss of 5,886 tons of salmon in the Chilean regions of Los Lagos and Aysén, according to the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca). To date, 3,277 tons correspond to the affected farms in Los Lagos, 14% of the active biomass, and 2,609 tons to Aysén region, which corresponds to 2% of the active biomass.

According to Sernapesca, 95% of the dead fish have been removed and sent to processing facilities, such as fishmeal and fish oil processing factories.
