Scoular breaks ground on new marine protein processing facility

Scoular broke ground on a new marine protein processing facility in Warrenton, Oregon, U.S. for aquafeed and pet food manufacturers.
The Warrenton marine protein processing facility is a joint venture created by Scoular with Da Yang Seafoods and Bornstein Seafoods, which have nearby seafood processing facilities. The facility will process fish and shrimp waste into fishmeal, fish oil and shrimp meal. This project will create a larger supply base for Scoular customers and a solution for fish waste in the Pacific Northwest.
The $12 million facility is being built in a 1.5-acre parcel with a 14,500 square foot building and is projected to be commissioned in summer 2022.
“Fishmeal is a core business for Scoular, which provides supply chain solutions for feed, pet food and aquaculture customers worldwide. Scoular has been in this market for more than 20 years,” the company told Aquafeed.com.
As part of its broad portfolio of grain and ingredients, Scoular entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Montana Microbial Products in 2020 to produce and sell a barley protein concentrate in North America and Asia under the brand Emerge™. The company expects to begin producing Emerge™ in September after completing construction on its manufacturing facility in Jerome, Idaho.
