International Aquaculture Biosecurity Conference: Practical Approaches for the Prevention, Control and Eradication of Disease

August 17-18, 2009, Trondheim, Norway

The rapid growth of aquaculture in the last few decades and the emergence of many aquatic animal diseases that disrupt production and trade have opened a worldwide need and demand for practical and effective biosecurity programs. The International Aquaculture Biosecurity Conference: Practical Approaches for the Prevention, Control and Eradication of Disease has been organized to help set a solid framework for the development and implementation of biosecurity plans — from the farm to the nation. It will provide practical and effective tools for the aquaculture industry in the prevention, control and possibly eradication of many priority diseases. The organizers aim is that the conference will result in an outline for industry-government cost-sharing programs.

Held in conjunction with Aqua Nor 2009 the two day program will comprise of  presentations by internationally-recognized keynote speakers and contributed posters on the following topics:

» Components of ideal biosecurity plans and programs
» International, regional and national strategies
» Identifying and prioritizing hazardous diseases and evaluating risks
» Determining and mitigating hazardous disease critical control points and risks
» Disease epidemiology, surveillance and monitoring
» Determining disease status and freedom
» Control and eradication contingency plans and programs
» Disease diagnostics, medical and farm record keeping
» Implementing, auditing and certifying biosecurity programs
