MarinTrust has announced full implementation of its enhanced Factory Standard, Version 3 (V3), a year after its official entry into force on May 1, 2024. Since May 1, 2025, all facility audits are now carried out exclusively against V3. The updated standard represents a major step for the marine ingredients sector, reinforcing commitments to responsible sourcing, traceability, and sustainable production of fishmeal and fish oil.
V3 introduces strengthened requirements across environmental, social, and traceability domains, laying the foundation for fully traceable marine ingredients and promoting the use of byproducts to reduce waste and improve resource efficiency.
Key achievements to date include:
- 72 facilities are now certified to Version 3.
- 9 new facilities obtained certification under V3 in 2025, demonstrating growing global adoption.
- 63 companies are currently awaiting certification, some of which operate multiple facilities.
- An additional 11 new facilities are in the pipeline for certification.
Francisco Aldon, CEO of MarinTrust, said that “Version 3 represents a bold step forward for the marine ingredients industry. With nearly half of the global production of fishmeal and fish oil already certified under MarinTrust, the new standard will drive even greater transparency and accountability across the supply chain. The growing global uptake shows a clear, shared commitment to a more sustainable industry".
The transition to V3 has been supported by a comprehensive program of webinars, workshops, and guidance documents, ensuring that stakeholders are well-equipped to meet the updated requirements. The standard also aligns with international best practices, including the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries and ILO conventions on labour rights. As the industry continues to evolve, MarinTrust remains committed to fostering a more sustainable and socially responsible future for marine ingredients worldwide.
