AFIA Salmonella Control Webcasts
AFIA has organized two educational webcasts this spring that are designed to help feed industry personnel better understand how to control and manage Salmonella.
Members of the American Feed Industry Association’s Pet Food Committee are finalizing written guidance on options for controlling Salmonella, which is considered an adulterant when found in pet foods. Discoveries of Salmonella in finished pet food can lead to product recalls.
Additionally, the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Veterinary Medicine has an ongoing Salmonella surveillance program to identify the presence of this bacteria in feed and ingredients, as well as pet food. This effort, along with potential enactment of legislation this year concerning food and feed safety, means this topic is receiving greater attention from the feed industry.
