Aquaculture Europe 2011 Updates

With two months to go and over 600 abstracts received, Aquaculture Europe 2011 is promising to attract even more participants than AE10 in Porto. Register now and start to organize your travel. Industry Forum – Farmers day at Aquaculture Europe 2011 – October Wednesday Oct 19th.

The farmer’s day focusses all on various aspects of the aquaculture industry. All Greek, Turkish and European farmers are invited to participate during this Industry Forum. This forum also attracts farmers and professionals from the Middle East, and other European countries. The Industry Forum is open for all trade show visitors and for all conference participants.

-         FEAP, EATiP, the Hellenic Aquaculture Technology & Innovation platform, PTERA Spain, are giving presentations on their future strategies and initiatives.

-         More presentations on: market evolution and forecasting tools; Quality and health claims for sea bass and sea bream – achieving success and communicating to stakeholders; Vocational skill needs in the Mediterranean mariculture industry (INTRANEMMA).

-         Challenges and Opportunities for Mediterranean Aquaculture by Carlos Diaz, Vice President, BioMar Continental Europe

o       Increasingly volatile raw materials markets, pressure from emerging diseases, financial crisis, and public demand for a sustainable aquaculture are just some of the challenges facing Mediterranean aquaculture, but sustainable growth is possible if the right initiatives are implemented.

o       With a wider range of raw materials included in feed recipes and the realization that not only the feed composition affects sustainability it is necessary to move from a narrow focus on marine ingredients in fish feed to a comprehensive value chain approach in evaluations of sustainability.
