The Economic Commission of Afghanistan has approved a comprehensive plan to expand the country’s fish farming sector, aiming to establish 7,700 new fish farms nationwide. The decision was made during a regular meeting of the Technical Committee held Monday at Marmarin Palace, the government reported.
The newly approved Fish Farming Sector Development Plan is expected to significantly boost domestic fish production, potentially meeting up to 90% of national demand for fish meat, and generate employment for approximately 300,000 people through both direct and indirect job creation.
During the session, committee members also reviewed the Agriculture and Livestock Sector Development Policy. While the fish farming plan was endorsed following discussions and feedback from the Ministry of Water and Energy, officials requested that the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock revise the agriculture and livestock policy to reflect additional feedback before its final presentation.
The fish farming plan has now been referred to the full Economic Commission for final approval.
