Alltech has performed a test on trout at the Danish FREA’s RAS farm to compare Alltech’s CRYSTAL diet, a trout feed for RAS farming, with that of a leading competitor. The test lasted three months and was comprised of 100 tons of feed. The outcome showed a significant improvement in water quality and fish performance.

Satisfied by these initial results, FREA decided to run another test comprising of 500 tons of Alltech Coppens feed in one full section of its RAS systems. The outcome of this second test showed a better fish growth and a more efficient feed conversion, and it also allowed the biological filters to handle up to 50% more feed without any decline in water quality.

Alltech stated that once the biological filter got used to the new feed, the fish in the test system showed a good performance and the water quality stabilized.

CRYSTAL is specifically aimed at maximizing the protein retention in the fish, thus minimizing the excretion of ammonia into the water.
