Anti-aquaculture Group Silenced

The anti aquaculture action group that boldly claimed "Scottish salmon is the most contaminated foodstuff on the supermarket shelf " and urged the boycott of farmed salmon is no more. The Salmon Farm Protest Group has closed down.

According to local newspaper, Shetland Marine News, the group has stopped operating because chairman Bruce Sandison has decided to retire. It will be stricken off the records of Companies House in Edinburgh at its own request.

Sandison, who lives in Tongue, Sutherland, is quoted as saying: "As I approach my 70th birthday I have decided that, during whatever years might remain to me, I should spend more time fishing and writing about things other than salmon farming.

Its website, The Salmon Farm Monitor, (still online) "named and shamed" fish farmers,  published negative information about aquaculture and urged consumers to take action against fish farming.
