The Aquaculture Protein Centre (APC) has engaged to new recruits on their team to run the long-term Krill program in collaboration with an industrial partner, Krill Seaproducts AS of Ålesund, Norway.

The project leader, Dr. Karl Shearer and his associate, Dr. Bill Warner recently joined the APC to assist APC with evaluation of the use of Antarctic krill in fish feeds.

The evaluation is part of The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries, through CCAMLR, which is the body that regulates harvesting of Antarctic biological resources, recently granted three Norwegian companies the right to harvest 400,000 tons of krill annually. Current estimates are that up to 5 million ton can be harvested on a sustainable basis. This is well below current harvest cap of 620,000 ton.
