Aquatic Eco-Systems founder dies at 59

Robert “Bob” Heideman, the founder and former president of Aquatic Eco-Systems Inc., died after a year-long battle with lung cancer. He was 59.

The former Navy Seal founded Aquatic Eco-Systems in Apopka in 1978 and served as its president until 2007. He remained an advisor to the company’s board of directors until his death.

Aquatic Eco-Systems is a global aquaculture company employing 150 employees who operate out of a 139,000-square-foot warehouse/office building. It caters to aquaculture and lake management interests as well as aquarium and water garden industries.

Apart from his company roles, Heideman mentored young entrepreneurs and can be credited with helping launch dozens of small businesses.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Heideman’s name to the Institute of Humanist Studies or the Hospice of the Comforter. [Source: Orlando Business Journal].
