Buy Farmed Salmon for Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 5th.

Counter the "International Day of Action" against farmed salmon - buy farmed salmon for dinner on Wednesday, urges pro aquaculture advocacy group.
November 4, 2003

Positive Aquaculture Awareness, the BC Canada action group,  has advised us that an International Day of Action for Farmed Salmon Reform has been planned for Wednesday, November 5, 2003.

Here is what you can do to counter this campaign, says the organization:

"On Wednesday, take a trip to your local Seafood Counter and buy some farmed salmon for dinner; it is just that simple.  Let the Seafood Manager know you support aquaculture as an environmentally sustainable industry and appreciate the store offering such a nutritious, healthy product. Consumer dollars and consumer support sends a very clear message, so take a few minutes out of your day on Wednesday and support this industry by buying farmed salmon for dinner.

Circulate the message to Buy Farmed Salmon for Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 5th to all you know and help support our industry.

International Day of Action for Farmed Salmon Reform: Victoria BC Event!

Coming to a neighborhood near you (email me for more cities around the world)...

On November 5th, wild salmon need you in the fight against feedlot fish farms.

After a third year of sea lice outbreaks and more research showing disturbing PCB levels in farmed salmon, the Coastal Alliance for Aquaculture Reform, Forest Action Group, and several other organizations are holding a National Day of Action against farmed salmon this November the 5th.  Actions will be held all over the world in cities on nearly every continent.

This action is for the purpose of educating the public about the differences between wild and farmed salmon.

This is a very important day.  It is our best chance yet to show the salmon farmers they need to start phasing out old practices and start phasing in new technology that protects wild fish and human health.

We are looking for people to come to the event or volunteer on the day.

Your help will make this a success. Are you able to send some emails to your friends inviting them to attend?  How bout attending or helping out at this event yourself to show your support?  Contact info below.

Whats planned for the day.

The Victoria action will be held on November 5th at 10:30AM at the Fort and Foul Bay Safeway and will last about one hour.  Well meet at the corner of Fort and Foul Bay and will walk to the front of the store together for the start of the event.

We need people to: hand out informational brochures and flyers and just be there to show support.  You can bring your own creative placards if you wish but having you bring yourself is the most important thing.

A closed-containment salmon farm will be in attendance (thats me)!  A scientist studying sea lice and salmon farms donated pink salmon and sea lice to help us educate people about the ecological dangers of fish farming.

Prizes will be given for most enthusiastic volunteer, funniest placard, most brochures given, etc.  And hey you may get on TV so slick your hair back and help save wild salmon!!

Thank you so much for your support!

Best fishes }<~~~)>
