Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL plans to circumvent import barriers from its trading partners by investing in poultry and aquaculture in Eastern Europe and Africa over the next  three years.

Madagascar, the  former French colony off the east coast of Africa, has been identified as a potential location for raising shrimp for export to European countries. Various newspapers report CPF president and CEO Adirek Sripratak as saying that while exports of Thai shrimp to the EU were subject to a 20% tax on processed products and 15% for fresh shrimp, shrimp from Madagascar enjoyed zero import tariffs in the EU.
