FIJI - Pacific Ocean Culture commits to boost aquaculture in Fiji

The much-awaited partnership was sealed yesterday between Pacific Ocean Culture PTE Ltd and Fiji National University (FNU) thus paving the way for the future of the aquaculture industry in Fiji.

In a world of depleting fish stocks, Pacific Ocean Culture PTE Ltd will produce a premium organic farmed product at their farm in Navua, to provide a nutritious food source for the people, create direct employment, provide practical training to students of the Fiji National University (FNU) and set the benchmark for commercial aquaculture in the Pacific.

The company says the project will also generate economic spin-off to the supporting industries within the local communities of its operations and contribute significantly to the economy of the region.

\"The farm will be developed under current international codes of practice for responsible fish farming and accepted industry \'best management practices\',\" the company said.

Pacific Ocean Culture PTE Ltd is an aquaculture entity specialising in finfish and crustacean production for freshwater and seawater species with more than 20 years of experience in running 50 to 1000-tonne capacity aqua hatchery, production and packaging plants.

Its expertise spans the following species — freshwater: sea bass (barramundi), red hybrid tilapia, GIFT tilapia, red claw and freshwater prawns and seawater, marine shrimps, sea cucumbers, mud crabs and giant clams.
