Experts from the International Cooperation for Convergence of Technical Requirements for the Assessment of Feed Ingredients (ICCF) have developed the new guidance document Feed Ingredient Environmental Risk Assessment Approach. The public consultation of the document is now open and stakeholders are invited to provide their comments using the feedback form until December 31.

The draft guidance document provides recommendations to applicants for evaluating the risk of feed ingredients to the environment, when fed to terrestrial animals or when introduced in aquaculture systems. It provides an approach for evaluating, whether an environmental risk assessment is required, based on exclusion criteria and models for calculating the concentration of the feed ingredient in the relevant environmental compartments (soil and water).

Depending on the outcome of the evaluation described in this guidance document, further studies may be required, related to the risk of the feed ingredient to the environment.
