La Niña conditions are currently re-developing in the Southwest Pacific Tropical region. New Zealand's National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research (NIWA) and New Zealand MetService report sea surface temperature anomalies across the central and eastern Equatorial Pacific Ocean are becoming more negative in recent weeks. More frequent high pressure anomalies have developed over French Polynesia (continuing from earlier in the year) with lower pressures over eastern Australia for the lead-in to Austral spring.
