Oceanic Institute Announces New Director of Communications and Education

The Oceanic Institute, Waimanalo, Hawai‘i, has announced the promotion of Mr. Gary Karr to Director of Communications and Education, reporting directly to Oceanic Institute President, Dr. Bruce Anderson. Karr was previously the Education Training and Communications Manager at OI.

“We are thrilled Mr. Karr has accepted this challenging new position,” said Dr. Anderson. “With expanding education and training opportunities resulting from our recent affiliation with HPU, the responsibilities of this position will be increasing dramatically. Gary’s dedication and talent are tremendous assets to our organization.”

Karr has worked for Oceanic Institute for 25 years in a variety of positions. Most recently, he has developed and managed training and educational programs in aquaculture and marine science for students, teachers and government officials. 

Karr was previously a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Moloka‘i Fishpond Restoration and a panel member on the Maui Economics Development Board.  Karr will continue to serve as a liaison with the Oceanic Institute’s affiliate, Hawai‘i Pacific University, working on joint education activities and other opportunities of cooperation.
