The marine ingredients that are manufactured with Peruvian anchovy make it possible to multiply by four the cultivated fish that arrive at our tables, stated the president of the National Society of Pesquería (SNP), Elena Conterno.

\"This vertiginous growth of world aquaculture -- from 10 to 80 million tonnes per year -- could not have been achieved without the presence of marine ingredients. The latest aggregated figures from IFFO and FAO indicate that with 13 million tonnes of wild fish that are used for marine ingredients, 51 million tonnes of fish are obtained,\" said Conterno in her speech at the International Seminar \"Policies and experiences on the promotion of hydrobiological product consumption in Latin America\".

In that sense, SNP president stressed that the anchovy that is used by the marine ingredients industry finally ends up in the consumption of people, through aquaculture.

\"It\'s the anchovy that is transformed into ingredients to net a lot more fish protein that ends up in our dishes,\" she said.

Conterno also said that fishing companies have been promoting the consumption of blue fish in the population, such as albacore, mackerel or horse mackerel, as they are more versatile species in terms of preparation and flavor.
