THAILAND - Villagers ask for help over thieving monkeys

Residents of a village in the northeastern province of Mukdahan are calling for urgent help from the authorities over long-tailed macaques stealing food from their homes and fish hatcheries. They believe drought has made it hard for the wild monkeys to find food in a nearby forest. The monkeys have been eating fish feed and damaging fish feed bags.

Residents of a village in the northeastern province of Mukdahan are calling for urgent help from the authorities over long-tailed macaques stealing food from their homes and fish hatcheries.

Villagers of Bang Sai Yai village in Tambon Bang Sai Yai in Mueang district said the looting has been happening for days.

They believe drought has made it hard for the wild monkeys to find food in a nearby forest.

The monkeys have been eating fish feed and damaging fish feed bags.

They have also been sitting by the roadside, risking injury or death.
