The future of European aquaculture to be discussed in Gran Canaria

The principle objective of this 40th AGM of the FEAP, celebrated in Gran Canaria from May 22 - 25, 2008 is to establish a forum for international debate, to find definitive and beneficial solutions on issues concerning production and consumption and to ensure that aquaculture continues to be a natural source of supply of healthy, high quality food.

The meeting will bring together 100 professionals representing the 28 national aquaculture associations of 23 countries, which are members of FEAP. Nowadays, the combined production of FEAP members is almost 1.4 million tons of fish.

The Spanish Association of Marine Fish Farmers (APROMAR) has been chosen by Federation to organize the Annual General Meeting of the FEAP.

During four days, eight commissions will debate issues that affect aquaculture producers throughout Europe, in both marine and freshwater fish farming, such as the Code of Conduct for European fish farmers, fish health and welfare topics, Mediterranean aquaculture or the processes for improving the quality of farmed fish.

The meeting will taking place at Hotel Lopesan Costa Meloneras, nearby Playa Maspalomas, in the town of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
