USSEC, Skretting, and WorldFish partner for Egypt's first IPA

USSEC, WorldFish, and Skretting have partnered in Egypt’s first Intensive Pond Aquaculture (IPA) system for tilapia production. The USSEC team met with WorldFish staff to review the several-month feeding demonstration, which is being conducted in an IPA production system with the use of high-quality U.S. Soy based feed produced locally by Skretting. Initial results showed a positive 20 to 25 percent faster growth rate; full IPA demonstration results will be available later this winter.

USSEC, WorldFish, and Skretting have partnered in Egypt’s first Intensive Pond Aquaculture (IPA) system for tilapia production.

The USSEC team, consisting of Regional Director – Europe North African (EU/MENA) Brent Babb, USSEC Regional Consultant – MENA Mousa Wakileh, and USSEC Aquaculture Consultants – Egypt Dr. Mohamed Osman and Dr. Gamal Naggar, met with WorldFish staff to review the several-month feeding demonstration, which is using an IPA production system and high quality U.S. Soy based feed produced locally by Skretting.

Full IPA demonstration results will be available later this winter, with initial results showing a positive 20 to 25 percent faster growth rate.

USSEC is also working on an IPA system with local Egyptian aquaculture leader Mohamed Gouda at one of his commercial farms. USSEC will be planning additional demonstrations of IPA in Egypt in 2018, building on knowledge gained from this year’s field trials and analysis.
