KnipBio has developed a series of naturally occurring microbes that convert low-cost feedstock into premium, single-cell proteins for aquafeeds.
The company, with collaborators from Roger Williams University, New England Aquarium, USDA-ARS and Northeastern University, has published promising results of some of its early findings with feeding trials, substituting the bacterium Methylobacterium extorquens in white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), smallmouth grunt (Haemulon chrysargyreum) and Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar).
