Soja de Portugal Group advanced in 2020 with the installation of a solar energy production park (photovoltaic) at its main industrial site, Sorgal, which is located in the north of Portugal. Sorgal is one of the group’s companies that produces and commercializes animal compound feed and owns the brands Sojagado, Sorgal Pet Food and Aquasoja.

The installed capacity of the photovoltaic park is 1 MWp in an area of about 15,000 m2 on the ground. As a technology that produces clean electricity, using only the energy of the sun, almost 100% of the energy generated is absorbed by Sorgal's industrial polygon corresponds in global terms to the self-sufficiency of 1/3 of green energy in this site.

Since the electricity supplied by the grid is mainly from fossil fuels, this type of investment allows the company to immediately reduce its carbon footprint by directly reducing the consumption of the electricity grid. Despite the winter period, the data for the 1st quarter of 2021 shows a reduction of 68,867 kg of CO2 emitted by Sorgal, corresponding to an equivalent absorption of 3,130 trees, and a reduction of 20% of energy consumption in that period.
