Former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, will be keynote speaker at AquaVision 2018 in Stavanger, Norway. Mr. Ban will directly address the food security challenges of the coming decades at conference, scheduled to take place June 11-13.

Wenger Manufacturing and Ottevanger Milling Engineers have organized a special seminar about the latest challenges and solutions in Petfood and Aquatic Feed production. The seminar will be held on February 27-28 in Sydney, Australia.

A Call for Abstracts has been released for the Percid Fish session at AQUA 2018, to be held August 25-29 in Montpellier, France. The general scope of the Percid Fish session is to open the discussion on the aquaculture of percid fish which, although quite varied, can presently be condensed into a few problematic areas, identified by stakeholders as curtailing expansion. The session will include four sub-themes, covering the most important fields and challenges facing the expansion of percid aquaculture. Abstracts are due April 10.

ONE: The Alltech Ideas Conference (ONE18) will be held May 20–22 in Lexington, Kentucky. The Aquaculture session at the conference will include presentations on feeding genetic potential and nutritional solutions to achieve consistent quality of premium products.

The 9th edition of Offshore Mariculture Conferences Europe will run under the new title ‘High Energy Mariculture Europe 2018’, taking place in Corfu, Greece from October 17-19, 2018.

The agenda and abstracts for Aquafeed Horizons Asia 2018 are now available

VICTAM Asia 2018 has nearly sold out of exhibition space, with over 220 companies from 35 countries set to participate. The conference is scheduled to take place from March 27 - 29 in Bangkok, and will incorporate a series of smaller industry conferences including Aquafeed Horizons Asia 2018.

Organizers of the 2nd International Conference on Insects to Feed the World are calling for papers to be presented at the conference, which will be held in Wuhan, China from May 15-18, 2018. 

The Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) team will hold its annual update meeting at the Seafood Expo North American in Boston on March 11. Meeting topics include 2018 initiatives, new facility development and growth, market development, program integrity, and updates on new products from the Global Aquaculture Alliance.

As we include increasing levels of plant based ingredients in aquafeeds we also raise the risk of mycotoxin contamination. These toxins are produced as secondary metabolites by fungi and can have serious detrimental effects on fish and shrimp. Ranging from mortalities in severe cases, to economic impacts such as reduced growth, reduced immunity, decreased feed efficiency. They can be caused by a single mycotoxin, or as is more common, by a combination of mycotoxins working together synergistically.

There is a connection between drying parameters and mechanical durability of extruded feed. Research by Dr. Anders Fjeldbo Haubjerg has demonstrated that the initial phase of drying is important to avoid early and spatially uneven glass transition, following evaporative cooling.

The F3 (Future of Fish Feed) Team invites companies interested in the Fish Oil Challenge to join one of two upcoming informational webinars to discuss the contest rules, including a new change to the product criteria, how to participate as a company or team, and to answer any questions related to the contest.

Registration is now open for the 30th International Agricultural Exhibition, AGRO 2018. The exhibition will take place from June 6 to 9 at the National Complex \"Expocentre of Ukraine\" in Kyiv, Ukraine. AGRO includes specialized exhibitions, such as the Fish Expo for Fishing and Fish Farming. 

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) have announced upcoming webinars to provide an overview of the new ASC-MSC Seaweed Standard. The agenda will cover an introduction to the ASC-MSC Seaweed Standard and certification process, seaweed facts, labelling, and more.

The Board of WAS-APC has announced the plenary speakers for APA18 in Taipei. The first plenary speaker will be Dr. Ching Fong Chang, President of NTOU and co-chair of APA18. His presentation will be the opportunity to introduce the conference theme “Aquaculture innovation, sustainability and food safety” to all APA18 participants. The second plenary speaker is Dr. Wang Qingyin, President of the China Fisheries Society, and Senior Researcher at the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute, CAFS, China. The title of his presentation is “Green Development--A Rational Approach to Sustainable Aquaculture.”

The Global Aquaculture Alliance’s annual GOAL conference will be held at the Hilton Colon Guayaquil in Guayaquil, Ecuador from September 25 to 27. The event will be co-hosted by Ecuador’s La Cámara Nacional de Acuacultura. Registration will open in February and the program will be published in April.

Aviana Africa has announced the details of the 2018 Mega Exhibitions and Conferences on Poultry, Dairy and Aquaculture. AVIANA Madagascar will take place March 1-4, 2018 at the Parc des Expositions in Antananarivo. AVIANA Nigeria will take place April 25-26 at the International Conference Center in Ibadan. AVIANA Kenya will take place July 12-13 at the Sarit Center in Nairobi.   

The 8th Offshore Mariculture Conference will be held in association with the U.S. Soybean Export Council, USSEC, in Singapore, from May 15 - 17, 2018. The conference will consist of two days of technical presentations and panel discussions from high level experienced operators in the sector. Conference organizers are calling for papers, and abstracts are due by January 19. 

WAS-APC has announced the award categories for this year’s APA conference in Taipei. The three categories for awards are Pre-conference Student Travel Awards, Presentation/Poster Awards for Students, and Travel Award for Women’s Participation.
