The first meeting of the steering committee for Asian Pacific Aquaculture (APA’19) was held in December 2017, in Chennai, India. The meeting was hosted by the Tamil Nadu Fisheries University, organized by World Aquaculture Society-Asian Pacific Chapter, and attended by Directors, Vice Chancellors and Deans of the central institutes such as CIFE, CIFT, CIFRI, CIBA, and DCWF, as well as state fisheries institutes of Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Lembucherra. At the meeting, the committee determined that the theme for APA'19 will be "Aquaculture for Health, Wealth and Happiness."

The U.S. Aquaculture Society is offering two Continuing Education workshops in conjunction with the upcoming Aquaculture America Meeting in Las Vegas. A full-day “Advanced Aquaponics Workshop” will take place on February 18, and a workshop on “Statistics in Aquaculture: The General Linear Model - a Unifying and Simplifying Theme of Statistics” will take place the following day.

The 8th Offshore Mariculture Conference has released a call for papers for the 2018 event. The accompanying list of abstract categories includes high quality feeds and targeted nutrition. Abstracts are due by January 10th.

Preparations are nearing completion for the second edition of feed-to-food international business hub event VIV MEA, which takes place in Abu Dhabi February 5-7, 2018. With expansion into an extra hall adding about 25% to its exhibition area and to the number of exhibitors, VIV MEA 2018 will offer an even wider range of products and services for animal protein providers from the Middle East and Africa to Iran and the countries of the Indian sub-continent.

Registration is now open for the upcoming Purchasing and Ingredient Suppliers Conference (PISC), to be held March 13-15, 2018, in Fort Worth, Texas. Hosted by the American Feed Industry Association, the annual event attracts more than 600 feed ingredient buyers and sellers.

The Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) has issued a call for presentations for the 2018 BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology, scheduled to take place in Philadelphia July 16-19. The BIO World Congress is accepting proposals for panel sessions, company and technical presentations, GreenTech investor sessions, and poster presentations.

AADAP and The National Aquaculture Association are sponsoring a session at Aquaculture America 2018 on the Veterinary Feed Direction rule change. The special session is intended to education any interested stakeholders who are confused about (1) the Veterinary Feed Directive rule change that was enacted on Jan 1, 2017 or (2) the subsequent Compliance Policy Guideline on Extralabel Use of Medicated Feeds in Minor Species.

VICTAM Asia 2018 will take place March 27-29 in Bangkok. Conferences taking place during VICTAM include Aquafeed Horizons Asia 2018 and FIAAP Animal Nutrition Conference Asia 2018, among others.

WorldFish and the Central Laboratory for Aquaculture Research (CLAR) hosted Cairo’s First International Scientific Conference and Exhibition on \"Sustainable Development of Aquaculture\" from November 20-22. The conference in Cairo brought together about 400 policy-makers, scientists, economists, academics, service providers, fish farmers and veterinarians, providing an opportunity for diverse stakeholders across the aquaculture sector in Egypt, Africa and around the world to exchange expertise.

The World Aquaculture Society (WAS) has announced that the World Aquaculture 2020 (WA2020) international conference and exhibitions will take place in Singapore from June 8-12, 2020. The WA2020 signing ceremony and first steering committee meeting took place last month, when many stakeholders gathered to help organize the event.

The 24th Annual Aquaculture Drug Approval Coordination Workshop will be held on June 18-22, 2018, in Bozeman, Montana. The workshop will be held in conjunction with the 59th Western Fish Disease Workshop. Additional Workshop details will be provided as they become available. 

Asian-Pacific Aquaculture 2018, scheduled to be held in Taipei on April 23-26, will feature sessions on many topics, including aqua feeds, nutrition, alternative ingredients, seaweeds and live feed. Event organizers have released a call for papers for the conference. Abstracts are due January 31, 2018.

AQUA 2018, scheduled to take place August 25-29 in Montpellier, France, will comprise a scientific conference, trade exhibition, industry forums, workshops, student events and receptions. Event organizers have released an official Call for Papers for the conference, and encourage the submission of high quality oral and poster presentations. Abstracts are due by April 10, 2018. 

Thousands of trade visitors from across Vietnam and the region attended the opening day of \"Aquaculture Vietnam 2017,\" the first international event for the aquaculture sector in the Mekong Delta. The opening ceremony of the \"Aquaculture Vietnam 2017 Exhibition and Conference\" was presided by Mr. Dao Anh Dung, Vice President of CanTho People\'s Committee, and was attended by representatives from VCCI Can Tho, VINAFIS, ICAFIS, Vietnam Pangasius Association (VINAPA), Embassies and members of media.

From November 28th to December 1st, the Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science from the University of Miami will organize a 4-day aquaculture workshop in Spanish.

ILDEX Indonesia 2017, the third edition of the International Livestock and Dairy Meat Processing, and Aquaculture Exposition, began today with strong attendance and plentiful business opportunities. This year’s edition of ILDEX Indonesia is larger than last year, with 230 exhibitors from 34 countries. By the close of the exhibition on October 20, organizers expect to welcome 8,000 trade participants from 30 countries.

GLOBALG.A.P. is conducting a free one-hour webinar on the responsible use of antibiotics in livestock and aquaculture production. The webinar, titled \"Reduction of Antibiotic Use Via the Implementation of the Criteria of the GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance Standard (IFA),\" will take place on October 25. Key learning objectives include gaining insights into the criteria for producers of aquaculture and livestock regarding the responsible use of antibiotics, with specific focus on training of staff and record-keeping.

USSEC held a seminar and coordination meeting with government bodies and aqua feedmills in Indonesia. About 45 people attended the seminar, which highlighted the importance of improved national standards for all types of feeds. Pamudi, USSEC Technical Manager in Indonesia, provided input to the development of effective and efficient feed, including updates on aquafeed databases’ development.
