Armenia has the most developed market for the production and export of fish in the region, ahead of Georgia and Azerbaijan, according to the Georgian edition of The Financial. The newspaper reported some 200 companies in Armenia are engaged in fish and crayfish farming, producing 5,000 tons a year.
Armenia produces 10 times more aquafeed than Georgia, the executive director of the Georgian company Aquafeed Georgia, Irakli Pataraia, the exclusive distributor of Biomar's feed in Georgia is quoted as saying .
Russia is the main export market for Armenia's aquaculture: the country imported 400 tons of fresh and frozen fish from Armenian in 2010, twice as much as in the previous year. Armenia's Prime Minister, Tigran Sargsyan , said this figure should double in 2011.
