One of the central themes of the conference of the European Aquaculture Society will be sustainability. Vidar Gundersen Product Manager at BioMar North Sea will at the Farmers Day, Wednesday 19th October, present the BioSustain Programme and explain how sustainability is now included in feed formulation. BioMar Norway was recently as the first company in the aquaculture industry certified according to the DNV ProSustain standard.

Vasilis Karalazos, Product Developer at BioMar Continental Europe will make a presentation on “Feed and Nutrition in Organic Aquaculture” and he will also be co-presenter on other subjects such as “Sustainable Aquaculture: A Case of Environmentally Friendly Organic Sea Bream Production” and “Growth and Feed Utilization in Golden grey Mullet”. These presentations are all in collaboration with the University of Thessaly.

Jørgen Holm, Senior Scientist at BioMar Continental Europe will present the results from a project on the “Effect of Substituting Lipid with Starch as Metabolic Fuel and Nutrient Utilization in Gilthead Sea Bream Juveniles”. This presentation is based on the Ph.D. project carried out by Kim Schøn Ekman, Product Developer at the BioMar Research Centre in Hirtshals and in collaboration with DTU Aqua. The findings from the project are already being applied in practice through the recent introduction of the YTELSE performance concept in Mediterranean fish species.

Hanne Jorun Olsen, Product Developer at BioMar North Sea will present results from research on the ”Effect of Dietary Krill Hydrolysate on Performance of Atlantic Salmon Fed With Very Low Fish Meal Diets”. Also this project has a very high practical relevance in the development of new feed solutions as it can pave the way for a reduced dependence on traditional marine raw materials and it is being applied in a number of different feed types with the QUICK performance enhancement concept.
