Catfish farmers call for feed mill in Nigeria
Following recommendations by the World Bank 7 years ago for commercial fish feed plants to set up to aid catfish cooperatives, farmers are still waiting for some action.
In 2008, a group of World Bank experts studied the catfish industry in Nigeria and proposed that one of the ways for small farmers to make a profit was for someone to start a commercial fish feed plant for catfish cooperatives, to enable them to cut production costs.
Emmanuel Akinwale, Operations Manager for Aquapro in Ibadan, Nigeria, put out a plea through the Sarnissa news forum this week for someone to do just that. “Can someone please start a commercial fish feed mill?” he asked.
