The latest statistics from Norway show that feed sales have increased by just 2 percent in the past year.

In Norway, Marine Harvest and Bakkafrost are partially supplied with their own feed and SalMar, Cermaq, Grieg Seafood, Lerøy Seafood, Norway Royal Salmon and the Scottish Salmon Company buy feed from EWOS, Skretting or Biomar.

Due to seasonal changes in seawater temperatures and biomass, feed sales as a percentage of annual sales are typically high in Q3 and low in Q1.

Seawater temperatures drive feed sales, and the average year to date temperature is 0.3 degrees higher than in 2014. As a rule of thumb in Norway, a one degree change in temperature increases the relative growth by 1.5% per month. On a biomass of 600,000 tonnes, a one degree change would imply a 9,000 tonnes production gain.
