The International Regional Organisation for Plant and Animal Health (OIRSA) has learnt "unofficially" about an increased mortality of shrimp in different areas of Central America.

OIRSA said it is unaware of any official document stating if the shrimp mortality is linked to early mortality syndrome (EMS).

The health body has urged "competent authorities" to take the "appropriate and urgent measures" in coordination with the shrimp sector, it said, in an statement, seen by Undercurrent News.
