Modelling tools to evaluate aquafeeds discussed at Aquafeed Horizons

Dr. Luis Conceição, co-founder, CEO and R&D director at SPAROS Lda., will explain how modelling tools to predict fish performance, biochemical composition and environmental impacts are a promising technology, already used in the terrestrial animal production industry. Such tools allow the integration of abundant published information and other existing knowledge regarding fish nutrition, into mathematical equations. These models range from statistical regression analysis to simple bioenergetic approaches, and the more developed nutrient-based models.

Dr. Luis Conceição, co-founder, CEO and R&D director at SPAROS Lda., will explain how modelling tools to predict fish performance, biochemical composition and environmental impacts are a promising alternative, already used in the terrestrial animal production industry, and in particular for poultry in the context of precision nutrition. Such tools allow the integration of abundant published information and other existing knowledge regarding fish nutrition into mathematical equations. These models range from statistical regression analysis to simple bioenergetic approaches, and the more developed nutrient-based models.

Dynamic nutrient-based models that predict growth and biochemical composition based on the underlying biochemical processes are available in literature but not used so far in practice. One model can predict the effect of changes in feed formulation, including feeding level, marginal amino acid deficiencies, small changes in feed digestibility, and water temperature on growth performance, feed conversion ratio (FCR), oxygen consumption and total released nitrogen, phosphorus and solids.

The 12th Aquafeed Horizons Conference is Aquafeed.com’s flagship technical conference for aquafeed professionals world wide. It will take place June 12, 2019, at the Cologne Exhibition Halls, (Koelnmesse), Cologne, Germany, alongside the Victam International trade show.
