Broussard appointed CSREES Deputy Administrator for Plant and Animal Systems
Dr. Meryl C. Broussard has been appointed to the position of CSREES Deputy Administrator for Plant and Animal Systems (PAS). Since 2002, Dr. Broussard has been the Director of the Animal Systems section of PAS. He joined the Department of Agriculture in 1985 as National Program Leader in Aquaculture where he provided leadership for the development and implementation of major research and extension educational programs in aquaculture.
Dr. Broussard has chaired the Joint Subcommittee on Aquaculture (JSA) on behalf of the Secretary of Agriculture for over a decade. The JSA is a federal-wide interagency coordinating entity charged with enhancing the overall effectiveness of federally administered aquaculture programs and reports to the President’s Office of Science and Technology Policy. He is also a past President of the World Aquaculture Society.
Before joining USDA, Dr. Broussard held several faculty positions at Texas A&M University and spent four years working in aquaculture development programs in the Philippines. He received his Ph.D. degree from Texas A&M University with a major in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences-Aquaculture. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Memphis majoring in Biology-Vertebrate Zoology.
