Winn Promoted to Associate Dean of Marine Science Programs at HPU
 
Dr. Chris Winn has been promoted to the position of Associate Dean of Marine Science Programs within Hawai‘i Pacific University’s College of Natural Science.

HPU announced that in his new position, Winn will support the university's Vice President for Research Dr. Alissa Arp with fund raising activities and the development of HPU’s marine campus, Oceanic Institute. Together, they will develop the administrative infrastructure to support graduate and undergraduate education and research at Oceanic Institute.

Winn will also advise recruiters, meet with prospective students and parents, and promote and represent the University and marine science programs to the community, mainland, and beyond. Additionally, he will be responsible for supervising all public relations areas for the undergraduate and graduate marine science programs.

Winn joined HPU in 1999 as Associate Professor of Oceanography and Director of Marine and Environmental Science Programs. Prior to joining HPU, Winn served as department chairman and assistant marine science professor at UH-Hilo. He has also previously worked as an assistant oceanography professor at UH-Manoa, assistant research oceanographer at UH’s Hawai‘i Institute of Geophysics, and visiting research chemist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

Winn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from San Diego State University, a Master of Science degree in microbial ecology from California State University at Fullerton, and a doctorate in oceanography from the University of Hawai‘i.
