Green Plains unveiled a new brand for its specialty feed ingredient, reflecting its quality performance, versatile formulation opportunities, proven nutritional benefits, digestibility and low carbon footprint.

Sequence™, a foundational feed ingredient produced at scale using proprietary mechanical separation technology, delivers a combination of corn and yeast protein, concentrated at a minimum of 60%. Green Plains has also achieved FSSC 22000 certification at multiple facilities, illustrating its strict adherence to food safety management specifications recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative.

“The Sequence brand identity is the result of in-depth research and creative efforts, and we are eager to release it onto the market,” said Todd Becker, president and chief executive officer. “It is the first specialty ingredient of its kind with proven digestive benefits and is produced exclusively at Green Plains’ biorefineries. Full commercial-scale production runs have now been successfully completed at multiple locations, and we are incredibly proud of the investment we’ve put behind our feed ingredient segment, as it has propelled us to the front of the pack in this market. Sequence is a low carbon-intensity ingredient that truly stacks up.”

“Sequence is the first building block for superior nutrition,” said Leslie van der Meulen, executive vice president, Product Marketing and Innovation. “It elevates the nutritional baseline, enabling customers to truly tailor their feed rations, and delivering far more value than a single ingredient could. Sequence empowers our customers to formulate and feed with confidence.”

Ideal fit for aquafeeds

“Sequence ignites nutrition without limits,” Louis Rens, SVP global ingredient sales at Green Plains, told Aquafeed.com. “With our proprietary technology, the fermentation process mechanically separates the fiber, fat, water and protein, supporting gut health with a unique blend of corn and yeast protein. This results in high digestibility, energy, palatability derived from higher glutamic acid levels, and performance with excellent handling and processing characteristics.”

Furthermore, Sequence has an improved energy profile compared to other plant proteins, an attractive amino acid profile, benefits of spent yeast from beta-glucans and mannan oligosaccharides, and a limited impact on the coloration of fish fillets for a corn product

“When it comes to salmon and shrimp diets, Sequence has been proven to show excellent growth and FCR values, along with high digestibility of protein, fat and minerals. We have also seen great feed pellet stability. We have also found the ability to reduce oil in formulation due to energy content, helping formulators save costs,” Rens said.

The main markets for Sequence are aquafeed and pet food diets. “In aquafeed, Sequence is the ideal fit for diets that have higher protein requirements like those of carnivorous or marine aqua species where formulators look to plant proteins to help reduce their dependence on marine proteins,” Rens concluded.
