New Kiotech website features new fish clips
Kiotech, the British biotechnology company listed on AIM, has launched a new corporate website www.kiotech.com featuring new video clips of fish feeding behavior.

The new website includes clips of an aquaculture experiment conducted in China where Eels in an aquarium were offered their standard feed and then feed treated with Kiotech’s feed attractant - Eel Aquatice.  Other clips shows the heightened state of feeding readiness induced in typical European fish species when Kiotech’s attractant is introduced to their environment and the recently launched range of pheromone impregnated biodegradable lures.

Working in partnership with the UK Government agency Cefas (Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science), Kiotech has developed innovative pheromone technology, currently used in sports fishing, which will also improve both the production and sustainability of worldwide commercial fishing and fish farming markets.

 “Our technology mimics chemical signals secreted or released by organisms which cause a specific response when detected by organisms of the same or related species,” said Kiotech CEO Richard Edwards. “In the case of fish species, our research with Cefas has found that these signals can trigger heightened responses relating to feeding.”

“Our aim is to reduce wastage and improve the food to growth conversion ratio, said Mr Edwards.  “We are currently conducting tests to assess the efficacy of our products being developed for aquaculture and commercial fishing in the important Asian and Latin American markets, which account for around 80 per cent of world aquaculture production.”

Kiotech is supported by commonly accepted research which shows that the current level of commercial fishing is not sustainable and if it is not reduced the populations of countless marine species are likely to disappear.

“Global consumer demand for fish continues to climb said Kiotech’s Richard Edwards. “ 45 per cent of fish consumed are raised on fish farms and aquaculture has been the fastest growing food sector sustaining a growth rate of eight percent a year.”
