Pesquera Exalmar reported that as of June 30, 2017, its net income was USD 11.7 million, a much higher level than in the same period last year, when it registered a loss of USD 3.7 million. The company attributes this better result to the increase in effective capture and processing.

Exalmar’s total sales increased by 99 per cent in the first half of the year, compared to the previous year. IHC sales grew 100 per cent, which is explained by higher initial inventories, as a result of a greater effective capture in the second season of 2016 and the advance of the first season of 2017.

Given the highest quota allocated in the first season of 2017 (2.80 million tonnes) and the effective catch advance around 85 per cent, the average selling prices of fishmeal fell by 6 per cent compared to the second season of 2016 (effective quota of 1.95 million tonnes) and 16 per cent with respect to the first season of 2016 (effective quota of 914,000 tonnes).

The company reported that as of June 30 it had sold 67 per cent of the volume of fishmeal available for sale, which corresponds mainly to the second season of 2016.
