USA - September 2011 catfish feed deliveries down 17 percent from last year

Total catfish feed delivered in the United States during September 2011 was 68,757 tons, down 17 percent from September 2010, and down 32 percent from the previous month. Foodsize catfish feed delivered totaled 65,023 tons, down 17 percent from the corresponding month a year ago. Feed delivered for fingerlings and broodfish totaled 3,734 tons, down 25 percent from the corresponding month a year ago

The Consortium successfully integrated into a focused research group and the first series of joined experiments resulted in good batches of larvae living up to 18 days post hatch. The Catfish 2010 study represents the third study of the catfish industry conducted by the National Animal Health Monitoring System. Catfish 2010 takes a broad look at management, production, and health practices across the various facets of the catfish industry, including breeding, hatching, and foodsize-fish growout. The study builds upon knowledge obtained from previous studies and examines new topics important to the industry. This report focuses on the foodsize-fish production segment of the catfish industry.
